The recreated 7th Virginia Regiment's rifle company reenacts and interprets a representative Revolutionary War rifle company made up of colonial frontiersman and scouts like the men recruited from Virginia’s colonial frontier by Daniel Morgan. The recreated 7th Virginia Rifle Company is based on the historical rifle company commanded by Capt. Charles Porterfield. Capt. Porterfield’s Rifle Company served with the (1779) 7th Virginia Continental Line Regiment under the command of Col. Daniel Morgan. Many of the officers of Daniel Morgan's 7th Virginia Regiment had served with his rifle company in 1775, and had been captured with him during the failed American attack on Quebec.
